Title: The Odd Relationship Between Money and Happiness
Times: 3 Minutes
Pages: 2 Pages
Thesis Statements: Happiness seems like such a complex issue, filled with individual and cultural differences. Not having money to cover basic needs causes stress, but money can certainly relieve stress, and reduced stress can certainly lead to increased happiness.
Outline:

  • Relationship between money and happiness.
  • Not having money can cause stress.
  • Having little money can get lots of happiness too.
  • Money plays no role in happiness but money can relieve and reduced stress.
Pros: Money can't buy happiness, but happiness can't buy anything.
Cons: -
Resolution: There is no unit and no standard quantitative way to measure 'Happy', but If we link happiness to money, that is something we all understand.
Opinion/vocabulary expression learned:

  • Odd
  • Plenty
  • Equation
  • Equally
  • Leery
  • Fuzzy

Comment: From this article I get the point I think there are two main situations in which most people focus their attention on money: When they don't have enough and when they have more than they need. When you don't have enough money to get by, it gnaws at you much of the time, when you have more than you need you can easily fall into the traps of consumerism, over-active management of investments, and perennial dissatisfaction. Maybe money can represents a happy medium where your needs are comfortably met but you don't have enough money to start getting obsessed by what to do with it.
